Dorothy L. Martin

Dorothy L. Martin 91, of Goshen, died Thursday morning, February 20, 2014 at Greencroft Healthcare Goshen. She was born December 15, 1922 in Genesee County, Michigan, to Percy and Ella (Kurtz) Griswold. On April 16, 1946 she married Eli B. Martin in Mt. Morris, Michigan. He died May 6, 1987. Surviving her are four children, Laura (Art) Swisher of Zolfo Springs, Florida, David (Alice) Martin of Flint, Michigan, Lois (Allen) Coulter of Goshen and Ruth (Ed) Carter of Flint, Michigan; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Margaret Newman of Vancouver, Washington. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth Dickens; a son, Carl Martin; and a brother, Alton Griswold. Prior to her marriage to Eli, she worked as an elementary school teacher in a one room school. As a housewife she enjoyed gardening, canning, and was an excellent seamstress. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Goshen, where an 11 a.m. Thursday, February 27, 2014, memorial service will be held. Dr. Gregg Lanzen and Rev. Jim Shrock will officiate. Cremation will take place and burial will be in Mt. Morris, Michigan, at a later date. Yoder-Culp Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
