Dorothy E. Kinzie, 91, of North Manchester and formerly of Goshen, died Wednesday, October 23, 2013, at Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne. She was born April 5, 1922 in Nappanee to Charles and Flossie (Pippenger) Holderman. She married Dr. Marion Dale Kinzie February 26, 1942 in Nappanee. He died October 11, 1989. She is survived by three children, Paula D. (Ronald) Zyskowski of Alachua, Florida, Jerilee (Terry) Rediger of Turpin, Oklahoma, and Scott (Melody) Kinzie of Brownsburg; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Kathryn Holderman. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons; Marion Kinzie III in 1973 and Gary Dean Kinzie in 2002; and a brother, Earl Holderman. The Holderman family owned and operated Holderman's Grocery in Nappanee. Dorothy especially remembers the fun of getting up early, going to the store and her parents getting breakfast for them there. A 1940 graduate of Nappanee High School, Dorothy attended Manchester College, earning a bachelor's degree in elementary education. Dorothy's husband, Dale, was a medical doctor and worked for the University of Illinois at Urbana. After 26 years at the University of Illinois, Dale and Dorothy retired to Goshen. Dorothy taught school for four years in Monticello, Illinois. One of the Kinzie family's favorite memories is getting together during the summer at Syracuse Lake, one of Dorothy's favorite places to be. In the fall of 2006, Dorothy moved to Timbercrest, North Manchester, where she was a member of the Timbercrest Auxiliary. A 3:00 p.m., Saturday, October 26, 2013, memorial service will be held in the Timbercrest chapel. Burial will be Monday, October 28, 2013, at Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be given to Timbercrest Senior Living Community, Goshen City Church of the Brethren or Alzheimer's Association Greater Indiana.
