Dorothy Helen Huffman

Dorothy Helen Huffman, 105, of Goshen, died Thursday afternoon, May 14, 2009, at Greencroft Healthcare where she had been a resident since 2007. She was born in Keystone in Wells County, Indiana, on March 9, 1904, to Harry L. and Viola (McPherson) White.  She married Paul R. Harris on May 9, 1925 in Bluffton, Indiana.  He died December 3, 1938.  Then on June 26, 1959, in Bluffton, she married Ward H. Huffman.  He died August 23, 1973. Mrs. Huffman was a bookkeeper and did accounting for Montgomery Ward in Bluffton.  She also worked at Morris 5 & 10 in the home office, Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia and as an office manager for Caylor-Nickel Clinic.  She served as the Wells County Recorder for four years from 1945 to 1948. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Goshen and former member of the Methodist-Episcopal Church, Bluffton.  She was a charter member of Women’s Business and Professional Club of Bluffton and a member of the American Association of Hospital Accounts.  She served on the Wells County Welfare Board. She is survived by a son, Dr. Neil R. (Mollie) Harris of Goshen; five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by both of her husbands; four sisters, Mary White, Edith Mounsey, Margaret Landis and Florence Jamison; one brother, Edward White and a step-son, Paul E. Huffman. Friends may call 9 to 10:45 a.m., Monday, May 18, at the funeral home. An 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 18, 2009, funeral service will be conducted at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.  Pastoral Assistant Pamela Kling of First United Methodist Church will officiate. A 3:00 p.m., Monday, May 18, graveside service will be held at Elm Grove Cemetery, Bluffton, Indiana.
