Doris Katharine Lund

April 14, 1935 — June 4, 2023

Goshen

Doris Katharine Lund, 88, of Goshen, went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 4, 2023.

Doris is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, John “Jack” Lund, Sr.; a brother, Ken (Kay) Smith; sisters, Sherry (Joe) Lipson and Jackie Hamilton; a brother-in-law, David Lund; her three children, John (Jane) Lund of Norton Shores, Michigan, Katharine (JC) Schrock of Goshen and David (Stacey) Lund of Loveland, Ohio; 11 grandchildren, Melissa, Michelle, Johnny, Christopher, Jacqueline, Jessica, Audrey, Ethan, Courtney, Carter and Caitlin; and 26 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilson M. (Sr.)  and Loretta Jones and Wayne and Evelyn Smith; a brother, Wilson M. Jones, Jr., a son, Gregg Lund; a sister-in-law, Kay Lund and a granddaughter, Candice Targgart.

Doris was born April 14, 1935 in Dallas, Texas.  She attended Lansing Sexton High School, where she met the love of her life and future husband, Jack Lund.  After graduation, Doris and Jack were married June 26, 1953 in Lansing, Michigan.  They moved to different parts of the country but eventually settled in Grand Rapids, Michigan, for the next 40 years.  Eight years ago they moved to Goshen to be closer to family and enjoyed many special family gatherings at the Schrock farmette.

Doris loved spending the summers at their family cottage on Lake Charlevoix with family, friends, her children and later with her grandchildren.  She was a wonderful cook and her family could always count on a pot of soup on the stove, some homemade bread or a special dessert when they came to visit.  She was a voracious reader making almost daily trips to the nearest library or bookstore and always making sure to keep up on current events.  She certainly had a green thumb when it came to gardening and passed that on to her children.  She loved sewing and crocheting, whether it was making dolls for her grandchildren or crocheting baby blankets for each new great-grandchild.  When her beloved husband went to the nursing home, she faithfully visited him and would dote on him while sharing memories of the family.

Doris loved the Lord and in the last years of her life was more vocal about her faith in God.  Her favorite verse was Romans 8: 38-39.

The family would like to give special thanks to all the nurses and doctors at Goshen Hospital for their care and compassion for our beloved mother.

We will miss you terribly - all our love.

Visitation will be Saturday, June 10, 2023, from 10 a.m. until the 12, noon, funeral service at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.  A private graveside service will follow at Brown Cemetery, Millersburg.
