Doris Christine Jordan, 90, of Granger, passed away from congestive heart failure December 9, 2020 in her home at The Hearth at Juday Creek.
She was born April 12, 1930 in Detroit, Michigan to Harold and Agatha (Pfeiffer) Yochum. There she attended Salem Lutheran Church School through grade 9 and Southeastern High School grades 10 and 11. She liked to jokingly brag that she once sang with Frank Sinatra at a concert in downtown Detroit (along with the rest of the audience).
Doris graduated from Bexley High School in 1947 after she and her family moved to Columbus, OH. She then graduated from Capital University in 1951, meaningfully receiving her diploma from her father, the president of the university.
Her first teaching job was at a Lutheran church school in Marysville, OH. Doris then taught elementary school at St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Michigan City, IN. When the principal position needed filled, she stepped in and took on that role as well. While in Michigan City she met Charles F. Jordan. They married on June 27, 1959 at Christ Lutheran Church in Bexley, OH. Charles passed away on February 27, 2020 after 60 years of marriage. Toward the end of her working career, she was employed by Salem Bank in Goshen where she retired as Main Office Branch Manager.
Doris is survived by three sons, Timothy Jordan of Goshen (former wife Cheryl Jordan, New Era, MI), Thomas (Faith) Jordan of Granger and Jonathan (Maren) Jordan of Brownsburg. Her seven beloved grandchildren are Micheal (Torey) Jordan of Muskegon, MI, Mark Jordan of Muskegon, MI, Sarah (A.J.) Ginevan of Charlotte, MI, Matthew (Katie) Jordan of Champaign, IL, Jennifer (Johnathon) Jordan of Ann Arbor, MI, Stephanie Jordan of Granger, IN and Madeleine Jordan of Brooklyn, NY and numerous nieces and nephews. Last but not least are her adorable great grand-children Elisabeth, Noah and Alexis Jordan of Muskegon, MI (and two expected new additions soon!) Doris is also survived by her dear sister Faith (Walter) Bauer of Columbus, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her beloved sister Marilyn (Zipf).
Since birth and until her later years, Doris cherished time with family and friends at the family summer cottage in the Les Cheneaux Islands of Michigan.
Doris was a longtime member of Faith Lutheran Church in Goshen where private services will be held. Memorial contributions can be made to Faith Lutheran Church (Goshen, IN), Capital University (Columbus, OH), or St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and School (Michigan City, IN).
