Doris Jean Dean

Doris Jean Dean, 79, of Goshen, died late Wednesday night, October 17, 2012, at Greencroft Healthcare. She had complications from Alzheimer's Disease for a number of years. She was born April 10, 1933, in Muskegon, Michigan to Gail and Irene (Kelly) McDowell. She married G. Arthur Dean October 27, 1951 in Muskegon. He survives. Also surviving are three sons, Daniel (Julie) Dean of Grove City, Pennsylvania, Kevin (Janice) Dean of Elkhart and Nathan (Tamara) Dean of Osceola; three daughters, Cheryl (Lance) Scotney of Cincinnati, Ohio, Rebecca (Kenneth) Blankenship of Rolling Prairie and Nancy (John) Wagner of Little Chute, Wisconsin; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mary (Tom) Tomaris, and Patricia (George) LaRose, both of Muskegon and Gloria (Joe) Cote of Tallahassee, Florida; and three brothers, Dennis (Phyllis) McDowell of Muskegon, Ron (Sally) McDowell of Grand Haven, Michigan and Paul McDowell of Tallahassee. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Edna Schwing. A Goshen resident since 2009, coming from Ocala, Florida, Mrs. Dean was a medical transcriptionist. She had worked at LaPorte Hospital, LaPorte, Theda Clark Medical Center, Neenah, Wisconsin, Marshfield Hospital, Marshfield, Wisconsin and Ocala Hospital, Ocala, Florida. Mrs. Dean was a pastor's wife, working with her husband in many capacities in the church, including singing in the choirs and teaching Sunday school. She was a woman of great faith and her dedication to her Savior was apparent to all. She was also a very loving wife and mother, her devotion to her family served as a model to many. She enjoyed traveling and many outdoor activities, especially riding bicycle with her husband and walking daily. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the 2 p.m. memorial service on Saturday, October 20, 2012, at Sugar Grove Church, 58512 Old C.R. 17, Goshen. Pastor Rick Gering will officiate.
