Dorcas Fern Snyder, 87, of Goshen, died early Saturday afternoon, December 20, 2008, at Greencroft Healthcare. She had been in failing health and in healthcare for the past four and a half years. She was born in New Paris on December 31, 1920, to Leander and Anna (Leinbach) Garber. She married Paul Devon Snyder on June 1, 1940 in Goshen. He died February 20, 1991. A 1939 graduate of New Paris High School, Mrs. Snyder was a member of Yellow Creek Mennonite Church. She worked alongside her husband on the farm. She also worked for MMA for 15 years and as a cook at Fountainview Healthcare in Elkhart for four years. She enjoyed reading. She is survived by seven daughters, Rolene (Willis) Gingerich, Janice (Dan) Monschein, Ellen (Walter) Bradley, Karen Snyder, and Ronda Snyder, all of Goshen, Bonnie (Doug) Kirkdorffer of New Paris, and Peggy (Pat) Goggins of Pierson, Michigan; three sons, Jerry (Karen) Snyder, Fred (Barbara) Snyder, both of New Paris and Charles Snyder of Nappanee; 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Violet (John J.) Kaufman and Cora Askren, both of Goshen; and a brother, Verlin Garber of Boston, Massachusetts. She was preceded in death by her husband; three sisters, Lovina Hershberger, Myrtle Shaum and Hazel Toney; a brother, Leroy Garber; and a half-brother, Etril Leinbach. Friends may call 2 to 8 p.m., Monday, December 22, at Yellow Creek Mennonite Church in the Fellowship Hall. A 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 23, 2008, funeral service will be held at Yellow Creek Mennonite Church, Goshen. Pastor Wes Bontreger will officiate. Burial will be in Yellow Creek Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to MDC Goldenrod or Yellow Creek Mennonite Church.
