Dora LeRoy Covert, 94, of Goshen, died Friday morning, April 27, 2012, at Courtyard Healthcare. He had been in declining health the past three years. He was born November 8, 1917 in West Leroy, Michigan to Ezra and Bessie (Dunithan) Covert. He married Maxine Stoner October 12, 1940 in Middlebury. She survives. Also surviving are a son, Gary Covert; a former daughter-in-law, Karen Covert; two grandchildren, Melanie Craigo and Timothy Covert; two great-grandchildren, Paige Craigo and Trevor Covert; and a sister, Mary Strawser. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Elza and Joe Covert; and a sister, Cora Oswald. A 1935 graduate of Scott High School, he served with Patton's 3rd Army during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Post #30, and the VFW Post #985. A resident of the area since 1940, Mr. Covert worked for Torrington-Grinder for 40 years. He was a charter member and fireman for the Jefferson Fire Department for 24 years. Friends may call 4 to 7 p.m., Monday, April 30, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home where a 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 1, 2012, funeral service will be conducted. Pastor Tom Clark will officiate. Burial will follow in West Goshen Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Jefferson Fire Department.
