Donna Welty ,78, of New Paris, died at the home of her son, Brent Welty, surrounded by her children and her dearly beloved Buttons, on Friday, April 22, 2011. She was born November 28, 1932 in Peru, Indiana to the late Tracy "Earl" and Keturah (Cutshal) McClain. She married Kenneth D. Welty on September 24, 1950. He died January 10, 2001. She was a homemaker, an artist, and a business person. She graduated in 1950 from Peru High School. She worked 10 years for the Fairfield High School graphic arts department. For 20 years she was a Longaberger Basket consultant, retiring as a member of the Board of Directors in 2001. Mrs. Welty was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, New Paris. She had served on the Board of Directors of the Elkhart County American Cancer Society and as president of the Residents Council of Greenleaf Assisted Living Center. She is survived by her children, Stephan (Sheri) Scott-Welty of Shipshewana, Beth (John) Hinrichs of LaPine, Oregon, Brent (Sherry) Welty of New Paris, and Kyra (Roy) Teeple of Milford, ten grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Hal McClain of Denver, Indiana and a sister, Barbara Stoner of Peru, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Eugene, Oden, and infant brother Bernard. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home. A 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 27, 2011, funeral service will be conducted at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home with Pastor Rob Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at the Union Center Cemetery, Nappanee. Memorials may be directed to the Grace United Methodist Church, New Paris.
