Donald Joseph Wertz, 61, of Goshen, died Friday afternoon, October 22, 2010 at Woodlawn Manor in Elkhart. He had been ill since 2007. He was born on April 23, 1949 in Bay Port, Michigan to Joseph and Orpha (Stevanus) Wertz. He is survived by two sisters, Nova Jean (Durward) Miller of Pigeon, Michigan and Ramona K. Mahler of Elkhart; and two sisters-in-law, Ruby Wertz of Goshen and Floris Wertz of Bay Port, Michigan. He was preceded in death by two brothers, R. Dale and Willard H. Wertz. A truck driver, Mr. Wertz worked for Wertz Trucking, Inc, Viking Formed Products and Steury Boat Company. He loved to sing. He sang in the church choir, Evergreen Singers, and for over 40 weddings of family and friends. He also sang in the Dutch Family Festival in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. and in Pirates of Penzance at the Bristol Theatre. Donald’s wishes were to be cremated and to have a memorial service at his church. Friends may call from 2 to 3 p.m., Saturday, October 30, 2010, at the Grace United Methodist Church, New Paris, where a 3:00 memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers memorials made to the National Kidney Assoc. of Indiana, Inc, 911 E. 86th St. Ste 100, Indianapolis, IN 46240-1848 Yoder-Culp Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
