Donald Lee Steider, 69, of Goshen, died at his home Friday afternoon, June 27, 2014, due to an unfortunate accident. He was born March 14, 1945 in Meadville, Pennsylvania, to Ray and Ruth (Oswald) Steider. On August 9, 1986, he married Dorcas A. (Miller) Summerton in Elkhart. She survives along with his children, a daughter, Janell Harris, of Raleigh, N.C.; two sons, Bryan Steider, of Goshen, and Brendan (Holly) Steider, of Archbold, Ohio; two step-daughters, Dawn (Bryan Collmer) Summerton, of Lincolnton, N.C. and Deidre (Tyler Brinson) Bias, of Elkhart; eight grandchildren, Brandan, Adam, Tyler, Pamela, Wesley, Seth, Savion and Riley; and eight siblings, Dean Steider, Arliss (Steelman) Ketchum, Alice (Merlin) Stoltzfus, Merlin (Barbara) Steider, Wilma (Bill) Hadlock, Larry (Judy) Steider, Carol (Ron) Hennigh and Jim Steider. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother. Don was director of maintenance at Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary in Elkhart until his retirement in 2010. Since then, he has worked part time in the maintenance department at Goshen College. He was a member at College Mennonite Church. In addition to his family, his proudest achievement was his log cabin home which he designed and constructed himself. Don was hardworking, creative and known for the generosity of his many gifts to his family, friends and community. He was greatly beloved and will be missed by all. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the 4 p.m. Wed., July 2, 2014 memorial service at College Mennonite Church. Pastor Pamela Yoder will officiate. At Don's request, cremation will take place. Memorial contributions may be directed to A.M.B.S. - Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary or College Mennonite Church.
