Donald Lee Smith, Sr., 81, of Fort Wayne and formerly of Goshen, died Wednesday afternoon, April 22, 2009, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. He was born in Goshen on June 29, 1927 to Frank W. and Fairy B. (Swihart) Smith. He married Lorraine F. Chapman on September 2, 1950 in Flint, Michigan. She survives. Mr. Smith worked at Johnson Controls for 40 years. He was a technical writer and supervisor of office services. He retired in December 1990. He was a member of the Brenneman Memorial Missionary Church where he had served as a deacon. He was also a member of the Noon Exchange Club. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine; four children, Karen E. (Harry) Metzger of Bronson, Michigan, Donald L. (Susan Harris) Smith, Jr. of Fort Wayne, Bonita R. (Dr. Albert) Cornelius of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Dr. David A. (Carolyn Blocher) Smith of Fort Wayne; 12 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; a sister, Patricia (Don) Riley of Goshen; a brother, Paul E. (Shirlee) Smith of Phoenix, Arizona; and a sister-in-law, Caroline Smith of Goshen. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald D. Smith and a brother, John Smith. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, April 26, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. An 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 27, 2009, funeral service will be conducted at Brenneman Memorial Missionary Church, Goshen. Rev. Russ Hunsberger will officiate. Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to Brenneman Memorial Missionary Church, Wycliffe Bible Translators or Trans World Radio.
