Donald E. Showalter, 68, of Goshen, died at Goshen Hospital, on Saturday, July 5, 2025, while under the care of Goshen Hospice.
He was born on March 18, 1957, in Goshen, to Dale and Janet (Moseman) Showalter.
On August 8, 2009, Don married Denette in Goshen, and together they built a life grounded in love, faith, and family.
A proud public servant, Don dedicated 35 ½ years to the City of Goshen as a firefighter, achieving the esteemed rank of Captain before retiring in 2019. During his tenure as a firefighter, he also worked for Tri-County Ambulance. He was deeply passionate about his career and genuinely loved being a firefighter; a calling that defined much of life and brought him immeasurable pride.
Outside of work, Don was a man of faith and conviction, he gave his life to Jesus on December 22, 2009. He found joy in the simple things: riding his Harley, listening to music, and spending quality time with his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Denette; his children Nicole Pletcher, IN; Brandt (Nicole) Showalter, TN, Troy Showalter, VA; and Katie Showalter, CA; 4 grandchildren; and siblings Doug (John Hitchner) Showalter, OH, and Jody (Jeremiah) Downey; NY; and stepmother Sherry Showalter, Goshen.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. A memorial service will take place on July 16, at 11 a.m. at Brenneman Missionary Church, 61115 S. R. 15, Goshen, IN 4652. Pastor Wesley Miller will officiate.
