Donald Schlabaugh, 81, of Elkhart, died at noon on Saturday, December 29, 2007, at his home after a year and a half long illness. He was born in Goshen on August 28, 1926, to Frank & Helen (Miller) Schlabaugh. He married Colleen Perkins on May 18, 1946 in Elkhart at the St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church. She survives. He retired from NIPSCO after 37 years of service. Mr. Schlabaugh was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Goshen, and the Moose Lodge of Elkhart. He was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed playing euchre, golfing, bowling, camping and spending time with family. He is survived by his wife, Colleen; two sons, William L. Schlabaugh of Elkhart and Robert M. Schlabaugh of Edwardsburg, Michigan; two daughters, Donna L. (Larry) Weldy of Elkhart and Diane C. (Jeff) Blankenberger of Kokomo; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Floerkey and Delores Borem; and a brother, Robert E. Schlabaugh. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, January 1, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. A prayer service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, January 1. A 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 2, 2008, funeral service will be conducted at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Goshen. Father Christopher Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Elkhart or St. John the Evangelist Church.
