Donald R. Oiler, 65, "The Oilman" of Elkhart, died Tuesday morning, Dec. 30, 2014 at his home of natural causes. He was born March 13, 1949 in Fayette County, West Virginia, to Arnold R. and Eunice G. (Singleton) Oiler. On May 4, 1973 he married Mary Hapner in Nappanee. She survives along with two sons, Travis (Amanda) Oiler, and Richard Oiler, both of Elkhart; four grandchildren, Mandi Renee, Jonathan Richard, Mason Jeffery and Madyson Rose; a great-granddaughter, Mary Jane Anderson; two sisters, Roberta Hackney, of Charleston, W.Va., and Pat (Roger) Gibson, of Honaker, Va.; two brothers, Joe (Linda) Oiler, of Newcastle, Va., and Harold (Donna) Oiler, of Pasadena, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Earlene Oiler, of Newcastle, Va., and Dorothy Bowser, of Goshen; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Frank, James Charles, Robert and Lyle Maxwell Oiler. An area resident for 35 years, Don drove truck for many years with Starcraft and Miller Steel. He then went on to work for the Indiana State Highway and was the Goshen Street Commissioner for 11 years prior to his retirement in 2005, at which time he was presented with the key to the city. He loved to play cards and golf with friends. He had five hole in ones. "The Oilman" loved his family, his friends, and especially his grandchildren. Friends may call Sat. January 3, 2015 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home where a 4 p.m. funeral service will be held. Rev. Ed Ritchie, Elkhart County Community Baptist, will officiate. Cremation will take place following the service. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Wounded Warrior Project.
