Donald E. Landis

Donald E. Landis, 89, of Indianapolis and formerly of Goshen, died at Casselton Healthcare in Indianapolis, early on Tuesday afternoon, September 25, 2007. He was born in Elkhart, Indiana on March 17, 1918, to Menno and Orpha (Hostetler) Landis.  He married Caroline M. “Sally” Magalhaes on March 16, 1943 in New York City.  She survives. A life long area resident, Mr. Landis retired in 1982 as Director of Personnel from Western Rubber.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Goshen; Maplecrest Country Club; and a member and past president of the Goshen Chamber of Commerce, Goshen Junior Chamber of Commerce; and Greater Goshen Association; and a former chairman of the Goshen Public Library Board. A 1935 graduate of Goshen High School and a 1939 graduate of Wabash College, Mr. Landis received his Masters Degree from Northwestern University.  He served in the U.S. Army for four and a half years, separating as a major. He is survived by his wife, Sally; a son, Larry S. (Carol) Landis of Indianapolis; two daughters, Carolyn L. Thurston of Indianapolis, and Pamela L. (Gerald) Bollier of Carmel; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a brother, John W. Landis. Friends will be received 2 to 3 p.m., Sunday, September 30, at the First United Methodist Church, Goshen. A 3:00 p.m., Sunday, September 30, 2007, memorial service will be held at the church.  Pamela Kling, pastoral assistant at First United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Northwestern University School of Communication or Goshen Public Library.
