Donald Glenn King, 77, died Sunday evening, November 17, 2013, at his home after a two month illness. He was born May 21, 1936, in Santa Monica, California, to Elbert and Goldie (Grove) King. He grew up in Los Angeles and graduated from Fremont High School. He took classes at both Los Angeles City College and Fuller Theological Seminary. At an early age he received Christ and was an active member of the Calvary Mennonite Church, Los Angeles. He did two years of alternate military service in Indianapolis at Methodist Hospital. He returned to LA and worked 11 years at Union Bank. He married Barbara Ann Saltzman, August 19, 1961 in Upland, Calif. The family lived in Downey, California, for more than 30 years. He is survived by Cheryl Marie (Don) Thomas, Middlebury; a son, Daryl Glenn King, Goshen; two granddaughters, Rose Marie and Amy Joy; a brother, Leo (Pauline) King, Salem Ore.; and a sister, Hazel Kremer, Hesston, Kan. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, an infant twin brother, Ronald and a sister, Helen Stork. Donald was called to the ministry and ordained March 26, 1972 and served the Faith Mennonite Church in Downey for many years. He also served as Director of Shalom Ministries, Los Angeles. In 1994 he and Barbara moved to Goshen. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed reading and spending time with his children and granddaughters. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, November 21, 2013, and 8:30 to 9:45 a.m., Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, at Clinton Frame Mennonite Church. A 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 22, 2013, funeral service will be conducted at the church with Pastor Terry Diener and lifelong friend, Pastor Tim Lichti, officiating. Burial will follow at Clinton Union Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to Clinton Frame Mennonite Church.
