Donald Hodges, 87, died Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at his daughter’s home surrounded by family.
He was born March 2, 1937 in Bluefield, Mercer County, West Virginia to Ira Franklin and Joanna (Hudgins) Hodges.
On November 16, 1957 he married Carol Corrine Proffitt in Bluefield. She preceded him in death.
Donald is also preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Debra Ann Hodges; a son, Jeffery Wayne Hodges; two grandchildren, Shawn Troxell and Phillip Oliver; five brothers; and two sisters.
Donald is survived by his daughters: Judy (Adan Lopez) Alba and Penny (Michael Dennis) Troxell. Four sons: Steve Hodges, Tim Hodges, Barry (Cyndi) Hodges and Donnie (Ivy Hamm) Hodges. As well as a sister: Geraldine Buckner. Donald is survived by his 27 grandchildren; Bridgette, Cory, Kayla, Angel, Breana, Erika, Ethan, Kayden and Aliyana, Dustin, Brandon, Talin, Chase, Logan and Riley, Donnie Ray and Desarae, Dakota, John and Nikki, Jordon, Ryan, Brooklyn and Ashley, Eric, Autumn and Treasure; and 48 Great- Grandchildren.
A special tribute to his grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren: Bridgette (James), Gavin (Sacha), Jayla, Chloe, Khyra, Masyn, Kenna, Cory, Erilyn, Hunter, Kyden, Kayla, Halee, Rihlynn, Kayden, Isidro, Leom, Angel (Kyle), Xander, Xaeh, Xhyler, Breana (Johnny), Jaidyel, Jaidyana, Jaidynce, Johnny Jr., Erika, Ethan Lopez and Aliyana Hernandez-Lopez. As well as Eric, Autumn, Arya, Atlas, Treasure, Leeland, Lennon, Zachary and Nevaeh.
Special tribute to the children and grandchildren for their countless visits, and immense love they showed to their Paw Paw throughout his life but especially this past year when he needed them most.
A U.S. Navy veteran, Donald enjoyed boxing, going to the casino and scratching lottery tickets. He also enjoyed model trains and fishing. He was kind hearted and loved being around people. He would give the shirt off his back to a stranger.
A special thank you to Lake City Bank on 3rd street for their kindness and patience with Donald during his many visits to the bank. The family would also like to thank Goshen Home Care and Hospice for the care they gave him these weeks.
He will be remembered for making the best fudge, banana pudding, and his special love for all animals, especially his dogs, Malcom, Ranger and Keagen.
Visitation will be Friday, September 13, 2024 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
