Denny E. Fisher 64, of Goshen, died suddenly Thursday evening February 6, 2014, at I.U. Health Goshen Hospital. He was born July 18, 1949 in Goshen to Vernon and Thelma (Kauffman) Fisher. On March 1, 1968 he married Sandy Thomas at Clinton Brick Mennonite Church. She survives along with three children, Chris (Adrian) Fisher, of Millersburg, Sonya (Ronald) Schmucker, of Goshen, and Andre (Lou Ann) Fisher, of Mishawaka; five grandchildren, Samantha and Shelby Schmucker, Hannah, Colton, and McKenna Fisher; a great grandchild, Blakelynn Tepen; six brothers and sisters, Wilbur (Barb) Fisher, of Middlebury, June Hartman and Violet (Bill) Goodsen, both of Elkhart, Alta Hershberger, of Ligonier, Robert (Maxine) Fisher, of Goshen, and Steve (Diane) Fisher, of Middlebury. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Allen. Mr. Fisher was a co-owner and operator of Goshen Farm and Lawn Center. He attended Community Church of Waterford and was a member at LifePoint Church where he was an usher. Involved in many area organizations, Denny served many years on the Elkhart County 4-H Fair Board, was a co-director for the Elkhart County Tractor Pull, an honorary FFA member, and director for Millersburg Little League. He also retired from the Elkhart County Farm Bureau Co-op. Generous, jokester, hardworking, family man, and hero are all words used to describe Denny by those who loved him. His wide smile, twinkling eyes and booming laugh embraced strangers, friends and family with equal delight. Given a servant's heart, he was the first to extend a hand to anyone in need, giving his time, talents and testimony each day before sun up, and long after it had set in the sky. He was the first to laugh at the jokes he'd tell you, and any work at hand was made lighter with his humor and cheery whistle that shared the joy in his heart while helping others. Deeply devoted to his family, his faithful, loving presence and support made him an irreplaceable mentor, champion and coach. Always ready to laugh, share stories or a big hug, Denny was a present and positive force in all of their lives. Incredibly proud of his children and their families, their latest news was always his first topic of conversation. His ongoing love for his wife Sandy was the foundation for his love of family. Being surrounded by those he loved was his greatest reward. His legacy will be built, defined and celebrated through the gifts left behind in the hearts of so many he shared his life and love with. Visitation will be 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, February 9, 2014, and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, February 10, 2014, at Community Church of Waterford, 65154 CR 21, Goshen. A 9:30 a.m. graveside service will be held Tuesday, February 11, 2014, at Thomas Cemetery prior to the 11 a.m. memorial service at the church. Pastor Mike Overpeck will officiate. Memorial contributions may be directed to Community Church of Waterford or LifePoint Church.
