Dennis "Denny" B. Gill, 73, of Elkhart, died Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at University of Chicago Hospital, Chicago. He had been ill the past four years. He was born in Goshen on November 27, 1941 to George Daniel and Helen (Knapp) Gill. On July 27, 1985 he married Judith Gregory at St. James Episcopal Church, Goshen. She survives along with his two sons, Jeff (Sue) Gill, Elkhart and Jamie (Becky) Gill, Berrien Springs, Mich.; his two daughters, Julie (John) Poehler, Carlsbad, Calif. and Janelle (Matt) Hohimer, Chatham, Ill.; a step-son, Greg (Baybie) Scudder, San Bernadino, Calif.; a step-daughter, Julie (John) Hilliard, Potrerillos, Panama; 12 grandchildren; a sister, Mary Ann (Robert) Brinklow, Traverse City, Mich.; a niece; and three nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. A lifetime area resident, Denny graduated from Goshen High School in 1960 and served in the U.S. Navy Reserves. After high school he worked at Lesher Woodwinds for six years. In 1966 Denny joined Stoutco Inc, a metal fabricator in Bristol, as a salesman. His promotions over the 48 years of service included Sale Manager, Director of Corporate Development, Ameri-Kan brand manager for Warsaw and Independence, Kansas plants. From there he was promoted to Vice President, Secretary and General Manager. In 2000, he was elected to the Board of Directors of Stoutco Inc. The next year Denny was elected as President and served in that capacity for 13 years. He was a very active member of Rotary since 1999. He served in many leadership roles including membership and fellowship. He also served on the Advisory Board for the Salvation Army for several years where he was very involved in fundraising, fund appropriation, and supporting the annual Gala. He was a 25 year member of the South Bend Power Squadron. Friends may call Saturday, January 3, 2015, from 10 a.m. until the 12, noon Requiem Mass at St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church, 226 W. Lexington, Elkhart. Father Daniel Repp will officiate. Burial will follow in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Because of his passion for needy families, the family requests that donations , in lieu of flowers be made to the Salvation Army, 300 North Main Street, Elkhart, Indiana 46515, or St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church Food Pantry, 226 W.
