Rev. DeLoss Coburn Shaffer, 89, died early Sunday morning, February 22, 2009 at Goshen General Hospital.  He was born on July 21, 1919 to Glenn and Delphia (Coburn) Shaffer in Marion, IN, and has lived in the Goshen area since 1941. He was the owner-operator of Shaffer Machine Shop in Millersburg, IN. In his earlier years he worked at Barler’s and Jessen Manufacturing. He was a pastor and evangelist with the Nazarene Church, and retired after pastoring Golden Rule Community Church of Goshen for 13 years. He did intense study in Bible prophecy. He served in the Army during WWII stationed in Germany and France. He was also an avid golfer and fisherman. He was a member of the New Paris Church of the Nazarene. He is survived by three daughters, Helen (Rabon) Simcox of Barryton, MI, Mary (Eldon) Yoder of Goshen, and Deborah (Edward) Weidenhaft of Nappanee, IN; three sons, Louis (Beverly) Shaffer of Dayton, OH, Thomas Shaffer, and David Shaffer both of Goshen; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; three step-grandchildren; six step-great grandchildren; and one sister, Sally Brockmeyer of Goshen. He is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Bonita Pershing and Margaret LaValley; and a granddaughter, Amanda Shaffer. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home and 1 hour prior to the services at the New Paris Church of the Nazarene . A 1:30p.m. funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2009 at the New Paris Church of the Nazarene, 67136 SR 15, New Paris, IN, with Rev. Dave Smith of New Paris Church of the Nazarene and Rev. Dave Hackney of New Paris Missionary Church officiating. Burial will be at Solomon Creek. Memorials may be made to New Paris Church of the Nazarene.
