Delmar D. Yoder, 85, of Goshen, died late Tuesday evening, January 30, 2007, at Goshen General Hospital. He had been in failing health since July 2006. He was born in Kalona, Iowa, on January 27, 1922, to Chris A. and Barbara (Troyer) Yoder. He married Lurmae Slead on March 27, 1943, in Kahoka, Missouri. She survives. A graduate of Kalona High School, Mr. Yoder has lived in the Goshen area since 1947, coming from Galesburg, Illinois. Mr. Yoder was owner, founder and president of Goshen Plumbing and Heating for 30 years, 1952-1982. He was a member of the Eighth Street Mennonite Church; the American Legion; a former member of the Goshen Exchange Club; the Goshen Police Auxiliary; and former president of the Carriage Travel Club. Since his retirement in 1982 he and his wife have traveled over 400,000 miles in their RV. He had worked the previous four winters at Disney World in Florida. Mr. Yoder is survived by his wife; a daughter, Paula (Tom) Meyers of Goshen; a son, Dennis (Christine) Yoder of Clermont, Florida; five grandchildren, Katherine (Perry) Baert of South Bend, Stephanie (Larry) Stidd of Chesterton, Christine Boone of West Virginia, and Betsy (Kelly) Stansbury and Tony Meyers, both of Goshen; and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Leola (Clayton) White of Kalona, Iowa, and Minerva (Emil) Yoder of Glendale, Arizona; and three brothers, Lester W. Yoder of Lakewood, Colorado, Floyd (Marjorie) Yoder of Kalona, Iowa, and Kenneth (Barbara) Yoder of Wheaton, Illinois. He was preceded in death by a sister, Geneva Yoder and a brother, Cecil Yoder. Friends will be received 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, February 2, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. A 10:00 a.m. funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, February 3, 2007, at the Eighth Street Mennonite Church. Pastors Kevin Farmwald and Brenda Sawatzky Paetkau will officiate. Burial will be in West Goshen Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Center for Cancer Care in Goshen or Eighth Street Mennonite Church.
