Delbert Leroy Mast, 80, died late Thursday morning, August 26, 2010, at his home in Goshen. He was born on December 30, 1929, in Southwest Elkhart County; he lived in Elkhart County his whole life except for his time in the military. He married Loretta W. Flowers on January 19, 1951, in South Bend, Indiana. She survives. Mr. Mast worked for Northern Indiana Brass Company (NIBCO) for 42 years, retiring in 1993. He was a member of the Goshen VFW and the Northern Indiana 2 Cylinder Club. He enjoyed playing bingo at the Goshen McDonald’s, going out to eat with his friends, and working on the farm. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951-1953, with the 8th Regiment, 1st Calvary Division as a Medic. He is survived by two daughters, Lori (Jim) Lindzy, Elkhart, Rebecca Biers, Edgewood, New Mexico; one sister, Madonna (Stephen) Nagy, Elkhart; three brothers, Willard (Brenda) Mast, Elkhart, Earl (Twyla) Mast, Mount Eaton, Ohio, Paul Mast, Ohio; five grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Gregory and Victor; and one grandson, John T. Frangis. Friends may call from 1-4 p.m., Sunday, August 29, 2010, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. A 10 a.m. funeral service will be conducted on Monday, August 30, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Chaplain John Piecuch of the VFW will officiate. Burial will follow the funeral and will be in Elkhart Prairie Cemetery, Goshen. Memorials may be made out to the Goshen VFW.
