David Ashley Pepple, 77, of Goshen, passed away Sunday, August 13, 2023, at Goshen Hospital.
He was born July 16, 1946 in Elkhart to George L. & Virginia M. (Shoultz) Pepple. His mother taught him to play Scrabble at the age of six, something at which he continued to excel throughout his life (while challenging others!).
David is survived by his loving wife, Cathie Cripe and his three children, Lori Nicole Pepple-Doyle of Baltimore, Maryland, Joshua David Sobieski and Haley Jeree Novak, both of Indianapolis, as well as three stepdaughters, one stepson of Goshen. He was also Pop-Pop to Jacob Thomas Doyle, Erin Claire Doyle and Kaolin Mykah Featheringill, and by marriage 11 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sarah Elizabeth Pepple- Miller.
David earned a bachelor’s degree from Hanover College in 1969. After graduating from Hanover David was drafted into the Army for two years during the Vietnam War. He was assigned to the Army Hospital in Nuremburg, Germany and served in the medical clinics there until his tour was over in 1972. After returning from his service in the Army he earned a master’s degree in counseling from Butler University. He worked as Clinical Director & Mental Health & Addictions Therapist in Indianapolis until retirement.
He was known for his kindness, faith, love of others, animals, gardening, music, cooking and sage advice. One of his fondest memories was barefoot water skiing on Lake Wawasee.
David was a lifetime active member of First Presbyterian Church of Goshen, Indiana. He was an Elder, Deacon and volunteered for the Homeless Food Program. Organizer and Chairman of the Christmas Day dinner for many years and was the originator of the Living Room Healing & Recovery Program for those needing emotional support. His faith and counseling background also led him to volunteer in many other ways.
Visitation will be Saturday, August 19, 2023, from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service at First Presbyterian Church of Goshen. Rev. Ken Weaver will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to be given to First Presbyterian Church of Goshen.
He will be interred at Violett Cemetery with his parents and sister.
