David Wiley Oplinger, 94, of Goshen, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 19, 2024.
He was born on September 5, 1929, in Wadsworth, Ohio, the son of the late Clyde and Marguerite (Wiley) Oplinger.
On January 28, 1956, he married Marilyn Jones in Chicago, Illinois. He is survived by his wife; daughter Mari (Mike) Larkin of Plainfield; sons; Dave (Cathy) Oplinger of Indianapolis, Dan (Carla, deceased) Oplinger of Goshen, and the late Doug Oplinger. His sister, Nancy Biasco of Pensacola, Florida, also preceded him in death. David’s legacy continues through his eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, who will cherish his memory.
An alumnus of Wawaka High School in Noble County, David furthered his education at Moody Bible Institute, Goshen College, and Indiana University. His commitment to education was evident in his 27 years of teaching, with 21 years dedicated to Jimtown Jr. High School, where he taught Physical Education and Health, and coached various sports.
A veteran, David honorably served in the US Army from 1953 to 1955. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bristol.
David’s final wishes were to be cremated and laid to rest at Violett Cemetery in Goshen, where a private family memorial service will be held.
