David Franklin Leichty, Jr.

David Franklin Leichty, Jr., 74, of Goshen, died early Sunday morning, May 18, 2008, at Elkhart General Hospital after a fall.  He was an eight year cancer survivor. He was born in Urbana, Ohio, on September 10, 1933, to David Franklin, Sr. and Helen Dorothy (Yoder) Leichty.  He married Carolyn Yoder on September 1957 at the 8th Street Mennonite Church in Goshen.  She survives. A member of College Mennonite Church, Mr. Leichty worked for 28 years as a sales representative for U.S. Food Service.  He liked to do wood carving and restore antiques.  In recent years he thoroughly enjoyed NASCAR and sports.  He was very connected to nature and was fascinated with caring for the birds and working in the yard. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; three daughters, Diane (Gari) Lewandowski of Bristol, Pamela (Michael) Allen of Flower Mound, Texas, and Linda (Brent) Snyder of Bremen; seven grandchildren; three sisters, Genevieve (Earl) Schwartzentruber and Delia (Ed) Herr, both of Goshen, and Evelyn (Michael) Hostetler of San Diego, California; and a brother, Warren Leichty of Goshen. He was preceded in death by a brother, Samuel B. Leichty and a sister, Katherine Lou Mullett. Friends may call 2 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, May 21, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. A 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 22, 2008, memorial service will be conducted at College Mennonite Church, Goshen.  Rev. Betty Hoschstetler and Rev. Rose Widmer will officiate. A private graveside service will be held in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to NHLBI/Dr. Richard Childs Research or College Mennonite Church Habitat for Humanity.
