David Russell Hoke, 76, of Elkhart, died Tuesday, December 26, 2023 at Memorial Hospital.
He was born March 27, 1947 in Goshen to William & Elizabeth (Delcamp) Hoke.
On April 4, 1987 he married Lodema Begly at Maple Grove Church, Topeka.
She survives along with a daughter, Trisha (Michael) Hade, Fort Wayne; two sons, Jeremy (Kelly) Hoke, Battle Creek, MIchigan and Jonathan Hoke, Elkhart; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson, and two siblings, Deanna Magers, Goshen and Stephen ( Arlene) Hoke, Statford, Ontario, Canada.
He was preceded in death by five sisters, Rosemary Nixon, Christina Hoke, Elnora Magers, Wilma Hoke and Patricia Berkey, and two brothers, Wayne and William Hoke.
David graduated from Concord High School in 1965 and from Goshen College in 1971 with a Business Degree. He worked for Church World Service as a manager, where he retired in 2013. He was a member of Creekside Church of the Brethren, Elkhart where he served as a deacon, the outreach team, and also on the church board. He did voluntary service in Florida from 1965 to 1967. He enjoyed mowing the lawn and loved gardening. He was a talented handy man with good carpentry skills.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at Creekside Church of the Brethren. Pastor Rosanna McFadden will officiate.
Burial will follow at West Goshen Cemetery.
