Elkhart City’s “Dispatcher Dan” Schaefer, 49, of Goshen, passed away quietly on Tuesday, March 2 nd , 2022, at Goshen Hospital with his wife Kelli at his side. Dan attended Indiana University, South Bend, from 1991-93, studying Criminal Justice & Police Science.
Dan led a life of community service, beginning with volunteer experience as a firefighter, Captain, and an EMT for the Cleveland Twp. Fire Department for over 18 years. In April 2018, Dan received the Michiana Homes for Heroes Award for going above and beyond in service to the Elkhart City community through his dedication on the job.
Dan married the ‘love of his life’, Kelli Elrod on December 31, 2021. Dan and Kelli had reconnected after knowing each other since senior high church camp, a love-story 30+ years in the making.
