Daniel L. Haarer, 82, of Goshen died Wednesday, September 28, 2022.
He was born October 6, 1939 in Shipshewana to Sylvester and Hilda (Bontrager) Haarer.
On June 9, 1962 he married Twyla Mae Kauffman at 8 th St. Mennonite Church, Goshen. She died December 26, 2016.
Survivors include a son, Brad (Arlynn) Haarer of Tampa, Florida; a daughter, Zoann (Tim) Wall of Goshen; two grandchildren, Chloe and Benjamin Wall and a step-granddaughter, Jenna Miller.
Also surviving are five siblings, Donald (Waneta) Haarer of Goshen, Verlin (Doris) Haarer of Huntertown, Lowell (Miriam) Haarer of Linville, Virginia, Eunice Maust of Goshen and Esther (Roger) Wenger of Shipshewana.
Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three grandchildren, Christian, Christopher and Nathaniel Wall.
Mr. Haarer was a member of Silverwood Mennonite Church. He graduated from Goshen College and earned his master’s degree from the University of Illinois.
Dan was always interested in helping his neighbors. He was executive director at The Window, and also worked for the Elkhart County Welfare Department.
Dan’s body was donated to the IU Medical School in the interest of anatomical medical education research.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, October 30, 2022 at 3 p.m. at Silverwood Mennonite Church, 1745 W. Lincoln Ave., Goshen. Pastor Donna Mast will officiate.
