Dale E. Hess, 60, of Goshen, died Sunday, March 1, 2015, at his home. He was born to Mahlon M. and Mabel (Eshleman) Hess, June 12, 1954 in Shirati, Tanzania. On July 14, 1984, he married Ursula Maria Hilbert of Bielefeld, Germany. She survives along with their three children, Markus (Amber Bennett) of Shawnee, Kansas, Hans (Melina Hunsberger) of Tegucigalpa, Honduras, and Karsten of Goshen; two grandchildren; a sister, Alice (Maynard) Shirk pf Conestoga, Pennsylvania; and three brothers: Henry (Laura) of Burlington, Ontario; Carl (Nancy Kauffman) of Lampeter, Pennsylvania and Glen (Sylvia Myers) of Lancaster, Pennsyslvania. He was preceded in death by his mother, father and step mother. Dale's career reflected his love of his native Africa, language, people, and the environment. For the last ten years he was employed by Goshen College and worked as the Ecological Field Station Director and Associate Professor in the Sustainability and Environmental Education Department. Family and friends may call Wednesday, March 4, 2015, at Waterford Mennonite Church from 3 to 5 p.m., followed by a 5:30 p.m. funeral service. Memorial donations may be given to Merry Lea Environmental Learning Center and his children and grandchildren.
