Dale E. Atwater, 86, of Goshen, died early Saturday morning, November 7, 2009, at Goshen General Hospital. He was born September 20, 1923, in Elkhart, to Ross D. and Beulah (Wood) Atwater. He married Tommi L. Norman on July 4, 1946, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death. He then married Janet (Artley) LeCount on September 4, 1987. She survives along with one daughter, Cynthia (John) Felton of Valporaiso; two step-daughters, Kathleen (Mark) Pamer of Topeka, and Barbara Baker of Millersburg; one son, Douglas (Judy) Atwater of San Diego, California; three stepsons, Allen (Marlene) Knisley of New Paris, and Rusty (Michelle) Knisley of San Diego, California; 14 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Paul Atwater of Elkhart and Vernon (Christine) Atwater of Bristol. Mr. Atwater worked as a supervisor for 23 years at Goshen Die Cutting. He was a US Navy veteran, serving from 1943 to 1946. He was a member of the Goshen City Church of the Brethren and a former member of the Elkhart City Church of the Brethren. Friends may call 1-3 p.m., Friday, November 27, at The Willows Clubhouse, Goshen. Graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 28, 2009, at Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Pastor Craig Knisley, Mr. Atwater's grandson, will officiate. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society or Goshen Care at Home Hospice.
