Dain W. Morehouse, 78, and Janay S. (Hubartt) Morehouse, 75, husband and wife for 55 years, died on Monday, November2, 2020. He died at South Bend Memorial Hospital and she died at Elkhart General Hospital, both due to Covid 19 complications.
Dain was born January 9, 1942 in Kosciusko County to John and Mary (Slabaugh) Morehouse.
On October 3, 1945 Janay was born to Lester and Treva (Mullen) Hubartt in Goshen.
On September 18, 1965 they were married in Goshen.
They are survived by three children, Rick (Elise) Morehouse of Goshen, Shelly (Craig) Fitch of Bremen, and Ryan (Dawn) Morehouse of Mishawaka; 10 grandchildren, Zach (Lindsey) Morehouse, Britani (Carter) Dyksen, Brandi (Pele) Belcher, Brooke (Derek) Gibson, Connor Fitch, Madison Morehouse, Michael Morehouse, Max Morehouse, Amelia Morehouse, and Sophia Morehouse; and two great-grandchildren, Zayla Morehouse and Zoey Morehouse
Janay is also survived by her siblings, Larry (Anna) Hubartt, Elkhart, and Janet Helmuth, Goshen.
Along with his parents, Dain was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Nola Sorensen and Margaret Cooper, and brother-in-law, Eldon Sorensen. Janay was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Gerald Hubartt, sister-in-law, Dina Hubartt and brother-in-law, Lamar “Smitty” Helmuth.
Long-time attendees of Nappanee Missionary Church, Dain and Janay were devoted followers of Jesus Christ. They hosted weekly Bible studies in their home for decades, and were avid prayer warriors. They were generous with their time, money, and resources. Over the years, they opened their home to over 30 different people and allowed them to stay for extended amounts of time. Enjoying time with family was always important to them, and they never missed an event or ball game for any of the kids or grandkids.
Janay worked for Wellington and Weddell Eye Care, Goshen. She enjoyed shopping in Shipshewana and had a gift for hospitality. She loved spending time with the grandkids, and meeting friends at the coffee shop.
Dain worked as an accountant, and retired from Tri-County Ambulance. He enjoyed coaching his children’s and grandchildren’s baseball teams. He was an avid card player, enjoyed Cleveland Indians baseball games and volunteered with the Indiana Model Train Visitors Club.
A private family service will be conducted. Burial will take place at New Paris Cemetery.
