D. G. “Duke” Welsh

July 9, 1924 — June 14, 2008

D. G. “Duke” Welsh, 83, of Goshen, died Saturday morning, June 14, 2008, at the home of his daughter in Milford. He was born in South Bend, on July 9, 1924, to Guy and Lovey (Lowry) Welsh.  He married Faye M. Plummer on December 24, 1943.  She died July 13, 2003. A Goshen resident since 1957, Mr. Welsh owned and operated Welsh Buick in Goshen from 1957 to 1973 and the Welsh Chrysler-Plymouth dealership with his brother Richard from 1981 to 1984. Mr. Welsh graduated from Lakeville High School and served in the US Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean Conflict.  He was a member of the Community Church of Waterford; a charter member of Maplecrest Country Club; and a life member of the Goshen DAV and VFW.  He served as past president of the Greater Goshen Association and as the Elkhart County Chairman for the Indiana Sesquicentennial. He is survived by a daughter, Nancy (Todd) Welsh Clouse of Milford; two sons, Scott Welsh of Goshen, and Ty (Ann) Welsh of Tucson, Arizona; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Faye; two sisters, Bonnie Graf and Ruth “Ikie” Baughman; and two brothers, Richard and Noble “Bud” Welsh. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 18, 2009, at 5:30 p.m., at the Community Church of Waterford on CR 21.  A dinner will follow the memorial service.  Pastor Mike Overpeck will officiate. Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen on Thursday, June 19, at 10:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project.
