Clyde Labar

October 18, 1913 — April 18, 2010

Clyde LaBar, 96, of Elkhart, and formerly of Goshen, died Sunday afternoon, April 18, 2010, at Woodland Manor where he had been a patient since February 2009. He was born on October 18, 1913 in Millbrook, New Jersey, to Orma and Laura (LeBar) LaBar.  He married Betty Bickel on February 15, 1946 in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania.  She died October 5, 1997. A World War II veteran, Mr. LaBar was awarded a purple heart while serving in the Phillipines. A Goshen resident since 1946, Mr. LaBar worked as a lathe operator for Johnson Controls. He is survived by three daughters, Sandra (Robert) Sherman and Kathleen (Steve) Damron, both of Goshen, and Peggy (Heinz) Mueller of Mishawaka; two sons, Ronald (Phuong) LaBar and Philip (Dana) LaBar, both of Goshen; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, William LaBar of Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Serena and Beatrice LaBar and Gladys Daverso; a brother, Charles LaBar; and two grandchildren, Randy Mueller and Christie LaBar. Friends may call Wednesday, April 21, 2010, one hour prior to the 11:00 a.m., funeral service at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.  Pastor Brant Van Hooser of First Baptist Church, Goshen, will officiate. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to Loveway.
