Clifford W. Swartzendruber

Clifford W. Swartzendruber, 90, of Goshen, died Wednesday morning, August 19, 2009, at Greencroft Healthcare.  He was born in Versailles, Missouri on December 6, 1918, to Ernest and Sarah (Wenger) Swartzendruber.  He married Eleanor M. Ulrich on June 1, 1942, in Pomeroy, Iowa.  She preceded him in death on April 16, 2003. A Goshen resident since 1990, Mr. Swartzendruber was the owner/operator of the S&D Chevrolet Dealership in Manson, Iowa.  He retired from Garber-Birkey Implement Dealership as parts manager in Pomeroy, Iowa. He was a member of Waterford Mennonite Church. He is survived by a daughter, Karen B. (Mark) Kurtz of Goshen; and a brother, Emery Swartzendruber of Rocky Ford, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his wife; three sisters, Hazel Birkey, Twila Wenger and Leanna Miller; and a brother, John Swartzendruber. Friends may call 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., Saturday, August 29, at Evergreen Place in the Gathering Room at Greencroft.  A 3:30 p.m. memorial service will follow.  Rev. Tina Schlabach of Waterford Mennonite Church and Vanette Kashmer, Greencroft Chaplain will officiate. Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to the Swartzendruber/Kurtz Family Endowment for Heifer  Foundation or to Waterford Mennonite Church.
