Clara Mae Gunderman

Clara Mae Gunderman, 105, of Wakarusa, died early Saturday evening, April 19, 2008, at Miller’s Merry Manor. She was born in Elkhart Township, on October 31, 1902, to Judson and Sarah (Long) Swihart.  She married Harry M. Gunderman on May 27, 1923, in Goshen.  He preceded her in death on April 11, 1982. A homemaker, Mrs. Gunderman went to work at the Old Bag Factory at the age of 14 and later worked at Kundred’s Gladiola Farm in Goshen.  She was a member of the Dunkard Brethren Church in Goshen.  She was well known for her quilting. She is survived by a son, Reinhold O. (Velda) Gunderman and a daughter, Ruth E. (Woodrow) Wilson, both of Goshen; seven grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 29 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; four sisters, Edith Cripe, Ruth Hazen, Ruby Kendall, and Esther (Phillips) Heeter; five brothers, Carl, Floyd, Merle, Noble and Donald Swihart; a granddaughter, Rebecca Wilson; a grandson, Ronald Paul Gunderman; and a great-great-grandson, Brandon Troyer. Friends may call 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, April 25 and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 26, 2008, funeral will be conducted at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.  Pastor Terry Gunderman of the Dunkard Brethren Church, Goshen, will officiate. Burial will be in West Goshen Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to the Torreon Navajo Mission in New Mexico; Faith Mission in Elkhart,  African Mission, or Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, South Bend.
