Christine B. Waugaman, 75, of Goshen, died Thursday, March 21, 2024 at Goshen Hospital.
She was born December 18, 1948 in Souix City, Iowa to Maxwell R. and Sue (Ballard) Baker.
On December 27, 1969 she married Robert D. Waugaman.
He survives along with two children, Andrew S. Waugaman, Colorado Springs, Colorado and Amy Pradna-Waugaman, Michigan; three grandchildren, Lukáš, Anežka and Helena; four siblings, Jay (Marcie) Morrison, Mike (Julie) Morrison, Liz (Jesse) Montes and Jenny (Allan) Younk, all of Iowa.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, David Baker.
Mrs. Waugaman was an antique enthusiast. She owned and operated Mustard Seed Antiques in Goshen for many years.
Christine was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Her faith was important to her, and she was a dedicated choir member for many years prior to the pandemic. Christine also helped provide meals to other church families experiencing hardship and loss.
No role gave Christine more joy than spending time with her husband, children, and three grandchildren. Christine cherished every birthday celebration and holiday gathering with her loved ones. She often spoke about the gratitude she had for her husband. His hard work and dedication afforded her the opportunity to take trips abroad with her family, and she was quick to credit him with this. Over the years, she traveled many miles to support her grandchildren in their numerous activities and always offered them words of encouragement and her unwavering love. Christine was a fixture at cross country races, track and field meets, art shows, piano recitals and theater performances, tennis matches, and high school football games. Her grandchildren knew they could count on seeing her in the audience or crowd. She was filled with pride as she watched her two eldest grandchildren prepare for college and enjoyed discussing what they envisioned for their futures. Christine fostered a love of the arts with her youngest grandchild and the two of them could be heard making plans to attend Broadway musicals, talking about which piece to learn next while traveling to and from piano lessons at Goshen College Community School of the Arts, or what books they had just finished. Christine was a devoted Notre Dame Fighting Irish Football fan who rarely missed watching a game or the opportunity to talk about her favorite players each season. Her love of football carried over into the NFL as well. No player was ever going to win her loyalty like Peyton Manning did and she seldom missed the opportunity to talk about how the Broncos went downhill after he retired. Her daughter in particular, will miss her weekly text messages about upcoming games, painful losses, and shocking overtime wins. Christine enjoyed talking to her son about his fishing trips and often shared photos of him holding up his latest catch. She was always impressed by his fishing stories, and it allowed her a chance to recall her own grandfather’s fishing stories.
Christine was a phenomenal wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved each of us unapologetically. We loved her beyond measure, and she will be sorely missed.
