Chester Max Aust

Chester Max Aust, 88, of Millersburg, died early Wednesday morning, June 3, 2009, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Wakarusa, where he had been a patient for the past four days. He was born in Goshen on September 6, 1920, to Charles P. and Helen (Jackson) Aust, Sr.  He married June Swoveland on March 2, 1946.  She passed away on October 18, 1969.  He then married Jeanette Musselman Kuhn on February 13, 1971, in Millersburg.  She died November 2, 2002. A Millersburg resident since 1971, Mr. Aust retired on January 1, 1983 from Western Rubber after 37 years.  He served as Clinton Township Trustee from 1990 to 1998.  He was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ in Goshen. He served in the US Army during World War II as an engineer, serving in the European Theater in France. He was a member of the American Legion 484 in Millersburg, a life member of the VFW Post 985 in Goshen, and the Goshen Masonic Lodge #12 and the Shrine and Scottish Rite. He is survived by two daughters, Ruth Ann (Verlin) Schrock of Myakka City, Florida, and Mary Lou Pavasco of Wakarusa; a son, John Paul (Roberta) Aust of Elkhart; a step-son, Raymond d. (Sandra) Cripe of Goshen; a step-daughter, Nancy (Lyle) Bursfield of Millersburg; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a step-grandchild; and two step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by both is his wives; a granddaughter, Lisa; and five brothers, Clarence, William H., Charles, Jr., John a. and George Aust. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, June 6, at the funeral home. Fellow Masons will conduct Masonic Honors at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, June 7, 2009, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow.  Rev. Bob Doane, former pastor at Zion United Church of Christ, and Rev. Chris Howell, current pastor, will officiate. Burial will be Monday, June 8, 2009, with family and friends gathering at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home at 9:30 a.m., to go in procession to the cemetery for 10:00 a.m., military graveside service at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola. Memorial contributions may be made to Shriner Hospital for Children.
