Charles Robert Munson

Charles Robert Munson, 90, of Coppell, Texas, and formerly of Goshen, died Sunday afternoon, May 10, 2009, at Vitas House, Irving, Texas. He was born in Scalp Level, Pennsylvania, on May 3, 1919, to Charles R. and Sarah E. (Menser) Munson, Sr.  He married Aida May Snyder on August 14, 1942 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania.  She died July 6, 1994. A Goshen resident from 1996 through 2008, Mr. Munson was a professor at Ashland Theological Seminary in Ohio from 1954 to 1985.  He was ordained on July 17, 1949, by the Johnstown Second Brethren Church in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. Mr. Munson graduated from Ferndale High School in Johnstown in 1937, from Ashland College in 1947, Ashland Theological Seminary in 1952, Western Seminary in Pittsburgh in 1954 and finally with a doctorate in 1971 from Case Western Reserve.  He served as National Youth Director for the Brethren Church from 1948 to 1953 and as national Moderator for the Brethren Church in 1965.  He also served in the following churches: Gretna Brethren Church, Williamstown Brethren Church, Johnstown Second Brethren Church, Savannah Presbyterian Church and Lexington Presbyterian Church.  He also served as Master of Ceremony for many banquets. He is survived by a daughter, Deborah M. (Don) Vick of Coppell, Texas; and two grandchildren, Rachel and John Vick. He was preceded in death by his wife, Aida; a daughter, Bonnie Christina Munson in March 2008; a half sister, Ruth MacDonald; and two half brothers, George and Ray MacDonald. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, May 13, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen, and from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, May 15, at Denbow-Primm-Kemery Funeral Home in Ashland, Ohio. A 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 14, 2009, funeral service will be conducted at First Brethren Church, Goshen with Rev. John Drexler officiating.  A 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 16, 2009, funeral service will be held at Ashland University Chapel, Ashland, Ohio, with Dr. Fred Finks, Ashland University President, and Dr. Arden Gilmer, Park Street Brethren Church in Ashland, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ashland County Memorial Park, Ashland, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be designated to Ashland Theological Seminary.
