Charles H. Hardesty, 79, of Goshen, died at his home Tuesday morning, July 22, 2014. He had been ill the past year. He was born in Goshen on December 1, 1934 to Jesse L. and Helen (Cripe) Hardesty. On Dec. 25, 1952 he married Shirley Stauffer in Goshen. She survives along with a daughter, Peggy (William) Horton of Centerville, Michigan; four grandchildren, Travis Henline, Matthew (Nichole) Henline, Ryan Henline and Megohn Henline-Horton; a great granddaughter, Tansley Henline; two sisters-in-law, Cami Hardesty and Carol May, both of Goshen; special nephews, Kevin Ulery of Elkhart and James Ulery of Eugene, Oregon; and a special friend, Kevin Hedrington. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Dale, Jesse, Richard & Wendell; and four sisters, Shirley Hardesty, Marian VanNuys, C. Daisy Todd and Myrtle Hickey. A lifetime Goshen resident, Mr. Hardesty worked at Starcraft for 15 years until retiring in 2006. He was also part owner of Freedom Corporation where he designed and built trailers. He was a member of the Goshen D.A.V. Auxiliary Chapter #15 and the Starcraft RV Association, traveling with them for many years. A bowling enthusiast, he bowled on several teams and won several trophies. He also enjoyed fishing, camping, NASCAR and spending time with his grandchildren. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 24, 2014 and one hour prior to the 1 p.m., funeral service on Friday, July 25, all at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Rev. Terry Tyler will officiate. Burial will follow at Violett Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Goshen Home Care and Hospice.
