Charles “Chuck” E. Bontreger, 73, of Fort Wayne and formerly of Goshen, passed away Monday, September 4, 2023, at Byron Health Center, Fort Wayne.
He was born May 24, 1950 in Goshen to Rev. Vernon E. and Miriam L. (Hoover) Bontreger.
He is survived by three children, Jessica (Jay) Lapp of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Derek (Jamie) Bontreger of Goshen, Scott (Adriana) Bontreger of Bristol; six grandchildren, Nola and Milo Lapp, Bernadette and Jude Bontreger, Lincoln and Ethan Bontreger; five brothers, Cecil (June) Bontreger of Goshen, John (Cindi) Bontreger of Fishers, Jason (Linda) Bontreger of Goshen, Mark Bontreger of Watertown, South Dakota, Wesley (Cheryl) Bontreger of Goshen.
A 1968 graduate of Bethany Christian High School, Chuck attended Hesston College and graduated from Goshen College in 1975 with a BA in business. He was a salesman for Moorman’s Feeds and Signature Inn, and later worked for Rollpak and Yellow Creek Mennonite Church.
Chuck enjoyed music, especially country, gospel, oldies, and classic rock. He had a tender loving spirit and deeply loved and adored his family, children, and grandchildren. He is remembered by many for being a bit of a prankster and for his dry and sarcastic sense of humor.
Visitation will be at Clinton Frame Church on Sunday, September 10, from 2 to 5 p.m. and Monday, from 2:30 until the 3:30 p.m. funeral service. Pastor Sebastiano Rosa and brother Wesley Bontreger will officiate.
Burial will follow in Clinton Frame Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be given to Bethany Christian Schools or Clinton Frame Church.
