Charlene R. Trainer

Charlene R. Trainer, 79, formerly of Goshen, died late Wednesday afternoon, August 24, 2011, at Miller's Merry Manor, LaGrange. She had been ill with Alzheimer's and COPD. She was born in Ligonier on October 30, 1931, to the late August and Irma (Keister) Knafel. She was married and divorced from Roscoe R. Miller. He died in 2004. She married Donald E. Trainer on June 20, 1976 in Ligonier at the Trinity Lutheran Church. He died May 12, 2006. She is survived by a son, Dale R. (Darlene) Miller of Goshen; two grandchildren, Matthew (Amanda) Miller of Goshen and Kayla Miller of Harrisonburg, Virginia; two step-daughters, Marietta (Gary) Stopper of South Bend and Beverly Trainer of Elkhart; a sister, Gladith Hile of Churubusco. She was preceded in death by four brothers, August "Gus", Woodrow, Franklin and Donald Knafel. Mrs. Trainer worked for the USDA in the poultry industry as an inspector and grader. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Ligonier and attended Waterford Mennonite Church. Friends may call 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, August 27, 2011 at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home where a 1:00 p.m., funeral service will be conducted. A 3:00 p.m. Saturday burial will follow in Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association or Miller's Merry Manor, LaGrange.
