Chaney Bergdall, age 76, died on September 5 at The Laurels of Goshen after a brief illness.
He was born in Freeport, Illinois to George and Evelyn (Gutshall) Bergdall, and married to Patricia Tinker of Sacramento, California in 1973.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons: Bruce (Julie) Bergdall of Goshen, and Steven (Emily Feingold) Bergdall of Lawrence, Kansas; three granddaughters: Lydia, Amelia and Iris; a brother, Kevin (Monna) Bergdall of Rockford, Illinois, and a sister Sheryl (Richard) Daly of Littleton, Colorado.
A graduate of Huntington College, Chaney continued his education, eventually earning a Ph.D. from Fuller Theological Seminary. He was Professor of Bible and Religion at Huntington University for 36 years, before retiring and moving to Goshen.
He was an active member of 8th Street Mennonite Church, Goshen Noon Kiwanis, Lake Area Community Band, Goshen Community Chorale, and delivered Meals on Wheels.
Friends may call Sunday, September 10, 2023 from 1 to 5 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, 1911 South Main Street, Goshen, Indiana. Memorial service will be Monday, September 11 at 11 a.m. at Eighth Street Mennonite Church, 602 S 8th St, Goshen, Indiana 46526.
