Chalmer Lee "Toby" Tobias

Chalmer “Toby” Lee Tobias, Jr., 65, of North Webster and formerly of New Paris, died at his home on Sunday morning, January 24, 2010.  He had been ill since October 2009. He was born in Hazel Green, Kentucky, on July 14, 1944, to the late Chalmer L. and Venus M. (Gevedon) Tobias. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Stewart (Howell) Tobias of North Webster; 2 daughters, Heather A. (Brian) Harren of Syracuse, and Serena A. Tobias of Goshen; three step-grandchildren; two brothers, Larry (Randi) Tobias of North Manchester, and Henry Tobias of Elkhart; a step-father, Jim Nickell of Florida; a sister-in-law, Priscilla Elliot of Arizona, and a step-sister, Jama Nickell of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Terry Tobias. A lifelong resident of the area, Mr. Tobias worked in the shipping department at Smoker Craft from 1980 to 1995.  An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He was co-founder of the Venus-Madison Memorial Scholarship Fund that is given to a senior at Morgan County High School in Morgan, Kentucky, and to the Indian Summer Camp in Lexington, Kentucky. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, January 27, and from 11 am to 1 pm, Thursday, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, where a 1:00 p.m., funeral service will be conducted.  Rev. Robert Jarboe, Hospice Chaplain will officiate. Cremation will follow the services. Memorial contributions may be made to the family to help with funeral expenses.
