Cecil R. Miller, 85, of Goshen, passed away Friday morning, April 26, 2013, at Greencroft Goshen Healthcare. He was born May 16, 1927 in Goshen to Homer R. and Vera J. (Weister) Miller. He married Jeanette D. Miller in Goshen May 25, 1947. She survives along with a daughter, Catherine (Charles) Hayes, Marshall, Mich.; two sons, Randy James (Vicki) Miller, Carollton, Ohio and Bruce R. (Pamela) Miller, Richmond, Va.; seven grandchildren, Traci, Tiffany, Sarah, Kevin, Angela, Brandon and David; two great-grandchildren, David and Roslyn; a brother, Max M. (Marge) Miller, Nappanee; and many numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Walter L. Miller. A 1945 Goshen High School graduate, Cecil joined the Navy upon graduation. He did his training at Great Lakes and was sent to Japan where he was stationed at Yokosuka Bay. After the war he returned to Goshen and worked a few years before buying a Dairy Queen in Bremen which he owned and operated for more than five years before selling it and returning to Goshen. After 30 years he retired from Bendix Corporation and he and his wife spent the next 25 years traveling around the country in an RV. Rounding out his travels was a trip to France, England and Scotland, visiting World War II landmarks. At the age of 74 Cecil was diagnosed with Parkinson 's disease which curtailed traveling. He was a member of Plymouth United Church of Christ and the VFW Post # 985 where he served many years on the honor guard. Friends may call from 2 until the 4 p.m.,memorial service on Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. The Goshen Honor Guard will provide military honors and Pastor Linda Sue Hewitt, Plymouth United Church of Christ, and Gary Miller, nephew, will officiate. Cremation will take place and burial will be at a later date at Violett Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Plymouth United Church of Christ.
