Catherine “Cathy” Schloneger Hochstetler, 78 of Greencroft, Goshen, passed to her eternal home after a long battle with cancer at 1:30 a.m. May 26, 2018.
She is survived by husband, Russell, and four children and their spouses – Jay (Jodi Miller), Jerry (Linda Childress) and Beth (J.D.) Smucker, all of Goshen and Dawn (Doug) Gerber of Wakarusa. She leaves 13 grandchildren, three step grandchildren and two great granddaughters. Doug & Joyce Cuney of Elkhart, are also special family members.
Cathy was born June 23 1939, in Canton, Ohio to Irvin and Irene (Falb) Schloneger of Louisville, Ohio. Siblings include Bob (Enid) Schloneger of Goshen; Sandra (Jim) Brenneman of Newburgh; Faye (Marty) Breneman of Apple Creek, Ohio and Keith (Bev) Schloneger of Dundee, Ohio. Both parents and brother, David Schloneger, are deceased.
Cathy’s faith in God was vital to her life. At an early age, she was baptized at Beech Mennonite Church, Louisville, Ohio. After Russ’s Goshen College graduation, they moved to New Carlisle to help with the developing church at Hudson Lake. While there, she worked as a nurse aide at Hamilton Grove, as a receptionist to Dr. Wolfe at the New Carlisle Animal Clinic and as secretary at Kern Road Mennonite Church, South Bend, where they were members. After forty years in the New Prairie area, they returned to Goshen where their children and families live. Before retirement, she served as secretary at Mennonite Church USA Archives on the Goshen College campus.
She was a member at Waterford Mennonite Church, Goshen, where visitation with the family is scheduled for June 15, 2018 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and a memorial service at 10:00 a.m. June 16. Her body will be cremated.
