Carolyn Marie Zehr, 83, of Goshen, was born May 17, 1931, in Bloomington, Illinois, the older of two daughters to the late Raymond and Fannie (Nafziger) Sommer. She died Sunday afternoon, July 27, 2014, at her home. Carolyn graduated from Bellflower High School in 1949. She completed her registered nurses training August 1952 at the Mennonite Hospital, Bloomington, Illinois. She married Wesley Jay Zehr on December 21, 1952. She worked at the Burnham City Hospital and Tuberculosis Sanitarium and raised their three young boys while Jay was in veterinary school. She was a member of College Mennonite Church since 1960. Her compassion for others led her to become one of the first nurses at the Greencroft Healthcare Center, and later, a volunteer for several local nonprofit organizations. She is survived by Jay and their three sons, Eric (Luisa) Zehr of Goshen, Brian (Kyla) Zehr of Ft. Wayne, and Jeff (Lana) Zehr of Inman, S.C.; seven grandchildren, Darla (Steve) Shrock of Phoenix, Ariz., Amy Zehr of Indianapolis, Evan, Erin and Andrew Zehr of Ft. Wayne, Lindsey (Jake) Adams of Greenville, S.C., and Allison Zehr of Inman, S.C.; one great-grandson, Samuel Shrock; a sister, Charlene (Roger) Haines of Mishawaka; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, August 1, 2014, in the Koinonia Room of College Mennonite Church. An 11 a.m., Saturday, August 2, 2014, memorial service will be conducted at the church with Pastors Phil Waite, College Mennonite Church and Dawn Yoder Harms, Assembly Mennonite Church, officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to College Mennonite Church Jubilee Fund
