Carolyn E. Swartzendruber 77, of Goshen, died Wednesday afternoon, December 4, 2013 at Courtyard Healthcare after an extended illness. She was born May 8, 1936, in Dalton, Ohio to Phares D. and Magdalena (Miller) Martin. On November 19, 1966 she married Sanford C. Swartzendruber in Rittman, Ohio. He survives along with two sons, Calvin F. (Karen) Swartzendruber of Goshen, and Philip C. (Marie) Swartzendruber of Seattle, Washington; six grandchildren, Logan, Madison, Michaela, and Emily of Goshen, and Evan and Sophie of Seattle, Washington; ; three sisters, Velma Souder of Telford, Pennsylvania, Grace Martin of Orrville, Ohio, and Lois (Dennis) Zimmerly of Sterling, Ohio; and two brothers, Ralph (Betty) Martin of Goshen, and P. Wesley (Mary Ellen) Martin of Orrville, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Alice Martin. Carolyn was a 1955 graduate of Eastern Mennonite High School, Harrisonburg, Va., a 1959 graduate of Goshen College, and member of College Mennonite Church. She worked as a registered nurse at Goshen General Hospital, Greencroft Healthcare, and Maple City Health Care. Along with her husband Sandy, she was a co-owner and bookkeeper of Precision Audio. Carolyn had a wide variety of interests which included biking, cross-country skiing, and gardening. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, December 12, 2013, in the Koinonia Room, College Mennonite Church. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 13, 2013 at the church. Pastor Pamela Yoder will officiate.
