Dr. Caroll S. “Doc” Stottlemyer, 76, of Goshen, died Tuesday afternoon, April 10, 2007, at Elkhart General Hospital, from complications following surgery on March 22. He was born on June 25, 1930, in Anderson, Indiana, to Herbert and Catherine (Seybert) Stottlemyer. He married Ruby Jean Persinger on June 16, 1956, in Columbus, Ohio. She survives. A 1948 graduate of Pendleton High School, a 1952 graduate of Purdue University, and a 1956 graduate of Ohio State University School of Veterinary Medicine, Doc served in the Air Force in Taipei, Taiwan, from 1957 to 1959. He worked as a veterinarian in Summitville, Indiana for five years before moving to Wabash where he owned and operated the Wabash Veterinary Hospital for 21 years, before selling it in 1985. He moved to Goshen in 1985 and worked 11 years for the USDA as a Supervisory Veterinary Medical Officer, retiring in 1996. Since retirement he has been very active in volunteer work for the Shrine, Kiwanis, St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, Goshen General Hospital, Salvation Army and Meals on Wheels. He holds the Honorary Legion of Honor from the Order of DeMolay, and was a member of the Scottish Rite, York Rite, and Royal Order of Jesters. He served 20 years as the coordinator of the Great Lakes Shrine Association Salmon Derby, a benefit fishing tournament, in Michigan City, on Lake Michigan for the Chicago Shrine Hospital for Children. He was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, Goshen; Sunrisers’ Kiwanis Club; Hanna Masonic Lodge #61, Wabash; Elkhart Shrine Club and Mizpah Shrine Temple, Fort Wayne. He is survived by his wife, Jean; two daughters, Cindy (Donald) Hughes of Findlay, Ohio, and Karen (Stephen) Brodt of LaFontaine, Indiana; four grandchildren; a sister, Rosemary Underwood of Lafayette, Indiana; and a brother, Herbert Lee Stottlemyer of Anderson, Indiana. He was preceded in death by a twin sister, Carolyn Lawyer in 1984. Friends will be received 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, April 13, at the funeral home. There will be a Masonic Service at 7:00 p.m., conducted by Dr. John Dragoo of the Wabash Masonic Lodge #61. A 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 14, 2007, funeral service will be held at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Pastor Tim Terrell of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, Goshen and Rev. Omer Nisley will officiate. Burial will be in Friends Cemetery, Wabash. Memorial contributions may be made to Shriner Hospital for Children or Salvation Army.
