Caroline R. Cripe, 84, of Goshen, died at her home Sunday afternoon, April 13, 2014. She was a 14 year survivor of breast cancer but lost her battle with a recent diagnosis of Stage 4 liver cancer. She was born August 21, 1929 in Chicago to Gustav and Pauline (Beiling) Wald. She married Charles S. N. Cripe, June 20, 1951 at Waterford Mennonite Church. He died Nov. 9, 2007. Survivors include two daughters, Catherine R. Cripe, Elkhart and Mary L. Cripe, Goshen; a grandson, Charles Gardner; and a great-grandson, Ian Gardner. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a son, Carl E. Cripe. She worked at Holiday Rambler in accounting for 20 years and helped organize travel rallies around the country for the Travel Club. She also worked for Switches and part time for the Elkhart County Auditor. An active member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 985, she served as president for eight years, 15 years as chaplain; and as hospital chairman working with local nursing homes and the VA Clinic, delivering items. She was also involved with Friday night bingo. She enjoyed crocheting, playing Pogo and White Sox baseball. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home where a 10 a.m., Thursday, April 17, 2014, funeral service will be conducted. Deacon Dave Elchert, St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post #985.
